Custom Design

This Paraiba Tourmaline cluster diamond ring is built around a 0.54ct GIA certified paraiba tourmaline with the signature neon glow that no other gemstone produces. The electric blue-green comes from copper in the crystal structure, and it is the reason Paraiba tourmaline commands more per carat than most sapphires. Even at half a carat, the stone does not need size to hold attention. It glows in lighting conditions where other stones go flat.

Instead of a symmetrical halo, we set free-form clusters of marquise and round brilliant diamonds on either side of the centre stone. The arrangement reads like foliage — organic, slightly asymmetric, framing the Paraiba without enclosing it. The marquise cuts lean outward along the band, drawing the eye in toward the colour at the centre.

The setting is platinum PT950, chosen for its cool white tone that keeps the diamonds icy and lets the Paraiba’s neon read true with no warm cast from the metal. A gently tapered band keeps the profile comfortable for daily wear.

Commission Showcase

This customised engagement ring was created exclusively for a GIOIA client and is not available for purchase. If this design speaks to you, we can create something in the same spirit — with a Paraiba tourmaline sourced and assessed by Clarence Yee, co-founder and gemstone specialist at GIOIA.

Why is Paraiba Tourmaline Unique?

Tourmaline is one of the most colour-diverse gemstone families in existence, and plenty of ordinary tourmalines come in attractive blues and greens. Put one beside a Paraiba and the difference is immediate. The standard blue-green tourmaline gets its colour from iron, and iron-coloured stones look painted — pleasant, but flat. Paraiba tourmaline is coloured by trace amounts of copper, and copper does something no other colouring agent in tourmaline can do. It makes the stone appear lit from within.

Gemologists describe this as the neon or electric effect, and it is the defining test of a true Paraiba. The glow holds in low light, under warm restaurant lighting, on overcast days, conditions where iron-coloured tourmalines lose their life. This is why laboratories like GIA test specifically for copper content before a stone can be called Paraiba or Paraiba-type. Without the copper, it is simply a blue-green tourmaline at a fraction of the value. With it, the stone joins one of the rarest gem categories in the world.

For this Paraiba Tourmaline cluster diamond ring, the GIA certificate confirms the copper-bearing chemistry. What that means in person is simple — this is a stone you notice from across the room, at half a carat, before you notice anything else on the hand.
