Custom Design

These cluster earring studs bring together octagon sapphires in pink, orange and yellow, each pair arranged in its own composition. The left and right studs are deliberately not mirror images. One carries kite cut diamonds tucked between the sapphires, the other uses round brilliants, so the pair reads as two variations of the same idea rather than a copy of each other. It is a small decision that makes the earrings feel collected rather than manufactured.

The setting is 18K rose gold, which warms the orange and yellow stones, deepens the pink, and lets the green-tinged yellow sapphire sit comfortably in the mix. The same stones in white gold would feel cooler and more formal. In rose gold they feel like sweets in a jar.

Sapphire Beyond Blue

Most people hear sapphire and picture blue. In reality, sapphire occurs in nearly every colour except red, which by trade definition becomes ruby since both are the mineral corundum. Pink, orange, yellow, green, violet, peach and everything in between fall under what the trade calls fancy sapphires, and each hue carries its own distinct character. The orange-pink of a padparadscha glows like a sunset. A soft pastel pink reads gentle and romantic. A vivid yellow has the warmth of late afternoon light.

What every colour shares is the durability that makes sapphire so practical for daily wear. Corundum measures 9 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among gemstones commonly set in jewellery. A pastel pink sapphire is every bit as hard as a royal blue one. That means earrings like these can be worn every day without the caution that softer coloured stones demand.

That range is also what makes multi-coloured sapphire pieces so personal. From soft pastels to vivid saturated shades, each stone has its own personality, much like the person wearing them. A cluster like this is less about matching and more about composing, choosing hues that sit well together the way a florist builds a bouquet.
