Every stone in this multi-coloured gemstone dome ring was chosen for how it sits against the others. A trillion aquamarine in clear ocean blue holds the centre, with sapphires in violet, blue and warm orange, a green tourmaline and a honey citrine scattered around it across a domed champagne gold band. It was made for a couple who never wanted a single diamond.

Custom Design
There is no single centre stone here, and that is the point. A trillion aquamarine holds the middle in a soft, clear blue, and the colour builds outward from it: a violet sapphire, a deep blue one, an orange sapphire cut as a slim kite, a green tourmaline, a citrine the colour of late afternoon light. Each stone is flush bezel set into the champagne gold so it sits level with the dome, pressed into the surface rather than raised above it. No two repeat a shape or a shade, which is a long way from what an engagement ring usually looks like.
The scatter is deliberate, not random. The triangular aquamarine anchors everything, and the smaller stones are placed so your eye keeps travelling around the dome instead of settling in one spot. Warm and cool are set against each other on purpose, the orange and gold lifting the blues and the violet, so the whole thing reads as a chosen palette rather than a handful of stones that happened to be there. Turn your hand in daylight and the colours shift as the light moves across them.
The band is brushed champagne gold, matte and quiet. A polished finish would have thrown light back and competed with the stones. This soft, textured surface does the opposite, staying still so the gemstones and their geometry carry the piece. The flush bezels keep every stone protected and smooth to the touch, and hold the ring to one continuous, sculptural line from whichever way you look at it.
Wearable Modern Art
Some rings are made to look like every other ring, and this one never was. It borrows from modern art, where colour and shape are allowed to exist for their own sake, and brings that onto the hand. For a couple who could not picture themselves in a solitaire, it says what a single diamond cannot: that what it marks is specific, colourful, and entirely theirs.
A ring built this way is really a test of sourcing. Every accent stone has to earn its place, chosen not to match the others but to complete the picture, and cut to a shape that fits the arrangement. Clarence spends longer choosing stones for a piece like this than for almost anything else we make. It is closer to composing than to setting, and it is exactly what a bespoke commission is for.
