This signet ring is built around a 1.01ct tsavorite in a pure, electric green, cut as a precise emerald cut with clean step facets and sharp corners. There are no prongs and no side stones. The stone is set entirely flush into a heavy, sculpted yellow gold bezel, the warm metal wrapping protectively around the crisp green so the surface of the ring stays smooth and unbroken. It is a solitaire stripped of every distraction, just the architectural geometry of the stone held within a broad band of gold.
The signet form is the point. Where a traditional signet carries a flat engraved face, this one carries a single gemstone in the same bold, grounded silhouette, a wide band rising to one central statement. Tsavorite is a green garnet, and one of the rarest coloured gemstones in the trade. It was found only in 1967, in the bush of East Africa near what is now Tsavo National Park, which gave the stone its name, and it is still mined in just a small corner of Kenya and Tanzania. The vivid green comes from traces of vanadium and chromium, the same elements that colour the finest emeralds, and a top tsavorite rivals emerald for pure colour while beating it for brightness.
The distinction collectors prize is treatment. Nearly all emerald on the market is oiled to fill fissures and improve clarity, but tsavorite is typically untreated, its colour and clarity entirely natural. It is also scarce in larger sizes, since the rough rarely forms in clean, sizeable crystals, so a clean one-carat emerald-cut stone like this one is a genuinely uncommon thing.
